Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT META BUILD & MIM Process

MIM is a manufacturing process that combines the design flexibility of plastic injection molding with the strength and properties of metal. Metal powder is mixed with a binder, injected into a mold, then debinded and sintered to produce dense, high precision metal components.

Meta Build Industries is a precision MIM manufacturer based in Ahmedabad, India, with 32+ years in manufacturing and 12+ years specializing in Metal Injection Molding. We serve Tier-1 OEMs across automotive, medical, and aerospace sectors from our 90,000 sq. ft. integrated facility.

We serve the automotive, medical and surgical, and aerospace industries supplying precision MIM components to Tier-1 OEMs in the USA, Germany, Serbia, and other international markets.

MIM is ideal when your component has complex geometry, requires tight dimensional tolerances, and needs volumes above 50,000 units per year if the quantity is moderate/high. If your part currently requires multiple machining operations or generates high material waste, MIM is likely a better and more cost-effective alternative. MATERIALS & MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

We process SS 316L, 17-4PH, SS 304L, 100Cr6, and 42CrMo4. We also assess and qualify special alloys on a case-by-case basis based on customer requirements. Contact us with your material specification

SS 316L MIM parts from Meta Build achieve: Tensile Strength 600 MPa, Yield Strength 250 MPa, Elongation 40%, Density 7.9 g/cc. Properties comply with ASTM and ISO standards.

17-4PH achieves tensile strength of 1,000 MPa post heat treatment. This grade is specifically used in aerospace brackets, locking mechanisms, and structural components requiring high fatigue life.

Yes. We process 100Cr6 bearing steel achieving hardness of 55-58 HRC post heat treatment, and 42CrMo4 alloy steel achieving tensile strength of 650 MPa post quench and temper suitable for automotive powertrain and transmission components.

Yes. All mechanical properties are tested and comply with ASTM and ISO standards. A material test certificate is issued with every production batch.

DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCES & PART CAPABILITY

Our standard as sintered tolerance is ±1%. On critical dimensions, we can achieve ±0.03 mm. Flatness tolerance is ±0.05 mm, and roundness is ±0.050 mm. We follow MPIF Standard 35 for MIM tolerances.

We can process parts from 0.5 grams to 300 grams.

Our minimum achievable wall thickness is 0.25 mm.

We can produce holes from 1.0 mm in diameter.

As sintered surface roughness is 0.5 to 1.0 µm Ra. With secondary finishing operations including steel buffing and polishing, we can achieve Ra 0.06 µm  a near mirror finish.

TOOLING & LEAD TIMES

Yes. We design and machine all MIM tooling in-house using H-13, P-20, and MS tool steels. This means faster lead times, full IP protection for your component, and no dependence on third party mold makers.

Our tool-to-first-sample lead time is 6 to 8 weeks one of the fastest qualification timelines in India.

Our molds are designed for 2,00,000 to 2,50,000 shots, ensuring long, stable production runs without dimensional drift.

We can tool up to 16 cavities per mold, subject to part geometry enabling high-volume production efficiency.

SECONDARY OPERATIONS

Yes, all in-house. We offer CNC machining for critical features, induction hardening, vibro finish, glass beading, sand blasting, polishing, steel buffing (mirror finish), blackodizing, plating, assembly, and deburring.

Yes. We perform induction hardening in-house. This is especially relevant for 100Cr6 and 42CrMo4 components requiring high post-treatment hardness.

Yes. We offer assembly and sub-assembly capability in-house providing you with a complete, ready-to-use component rather than just a sintered part.

QUALITY CONTROL & CERTIFICATIONS

We are ISO 9001 certified. We also comply with RoHS and REACH standards.

We use the Zeiss O-Select Vision Measuring Machine (VMM) with measurement uncertainty of ±0.005 mm enabling high-precision dimensional verification of MIM components.

We perform both 100% inspection and AQL sampling, based on customer requirements and component criticality. Every batch is released with a full dimensional inspection report.

Yes. A material test certificate is issued with every production batch providing full traceability from metal powder lot to finished component.

Yes — we support both PPAP and APQP on customer requirements. This is relevant for automotive Tier-1 OEM qualifications.

Our internal rejection and scrap rate is 2 to 3%.

100% on-time delivery rate recorded in the last 12 months.

SUPPLY CHAIN & EXPORT

Our standard MOQ is 5,000 units, subject to part geometry and complexity.

Standard production lead time is 8 to 12 weeks from purchase order to shipment, including in-process inspection and final quality release.

Yes. We actively export to the United States, Germany, and Serbia with established logistics partners for both air and sea freight. We hold an IEC code for international shipping and can provide country of origin declarations with every shipment.

Yes. We support annual blanket purchase orders with scheduled monthly releases ensuring a stable, uninterrupted supply for your production line.

Share your component drawing with us at info@meta-mim.in. Our engineering team will review it and issue a commercial quotation typically within 2 working days.
